Open Studio

Open Studio
Utilize this time to finish projects or start new ones! Take advantage of the tools and machines in the studio that you may not have at home. Buffers, hammers, torches, and a great selection of smaller hand tools make Art Worx a great place to get to worx! Come and work with your fellow artists in a great atmosphere. Open studio sessions will be supervised and students will work independently.

Studio time is sold in blocks of 3 hours at $15 per 3 hour block. Blocks are sold in a minimum of 10, which gives each card a total of 30 hours of open studio time. Multiple cards may be purchased with a discount - please inquire. Lost cards will not be replaced under any circumstance.

Walk-ins $20 per Open Studio session.

**Open studio schedule is subject to change. Please check monthly calendar or call the studio to make sure space is available.


Private Lessons

Private lessons are a great way to accomodate various learning styles and schedules. Sessions are $40/hr and can be structured and mapped to your individual goals. As a guide most sessions are structured in 3 hour blocks, but can be edited to fit your specific requirements.

To pay with shopping cart please figure the number of hours in your session and enter in total number of hours in the quantity field. Total should equal hourly rate 'x' hours.

Introduction to Metalsmithing Workshop
Join us for this one-day workshop and be exposed to some of the most basic foundation skills in metalsmithing/jewelry fabrication.

Students will learn to forge a bangle bracelet trio or duo, depending on how you utlilize your materials. Students will be exposed to soldering, hammers, mallets, texturing, joins, decorative embellishment options, and more basic metalsmithing skills. Try it out and see if fabrication is for you!

Spin Ring Workshop
This fun one-day workshop will teach students how to make a basic spin ring. This project is fun and challenging with a killer ring as your finished product! You will LOVE this workshop!

Students must have basic metalsmithing skills including soldering, filing, finishing, and polishing!

Etching Workshop - Saltwater & Acid Etching!!

Interested in creating patterns that are uniquely yours? Ever wanted to learn how to make your own brass plates? In this one day workshop students will learn about resist techniques, etching solution, metal preparation, and metal etching. We will touch on resist techniques safe studio practices, and safe disposal methods.

This workshop will also cover Saltwater Etching where students will learn to electrically charge saltwater for a safe, fun way to etch copper, brass, & bronze!

Student Supplies: (1) 'D' battery, 'D' battery holder, 1 Liter glass container with lid for mixing, & glass or plastic etching bath chamber. Battery holder available at Radio Shack or other electronics supplier.

Precious Metal Clay
Students will be introduced to this amazing material that works like clay, but fires up to a 99.9% fine silver piece. This medium allows any age and skill level to produce artful metal clay jewelry. Great for kids and adults! No prior experience needed!!

This workshop will cover the basics and students will learn about basic clay care, stone setting, texture, joins, and more! Students will leave with 2-3 finished creations! Dana Ruth is a Level 1 and Level 2 Certified PMC Artist.

Workshop tuition includes Beginners PMC Tool Kit.

Beginning / Intermediate Metalsmithing
Explore the art of jewelry fabrication. Students will learn piercing, soldering, stone setting, and polishing through demonstrations and hands-on work.  Projects may include rings, bracelets, pendants, and/or earrings. Some metal will be provided by instructor. Students have access to studio tools and equipment. Additional tools and metal can be purchased on site.

Introduction to Casting
The class will consist of a basic introduction to lost wax casting. Starting with basic carving, moving to wax forming, sculpting and wax wire. Students will work all the way though the full process of investing and centrifugal casting using sterling silver. Bring your pure scrap silver for your castings!

Prerequisites: Those taking this class should have had at least introduction to basic metalsmithing so they will not have issues with finishing touches like polishing and soldering. Supplies will be spoken about during the first class.
